Visitors and staff at the Glore Psychiatric Museum report shadow figures in doorways, voices calling from empty rooms, a constant feeling of being watched, disembodied voices, whispers and moans, and a man in dress pants said to roam the third floor; outside paranormal groups visit regularly and report activity throughout the museum, and the curator says staff think the activity may come from former employees rather than patients. Some say the spirits followed the collection when it moved. The museum appeared on My Haunted Hometown, and Ghost Hunts USA runs overnight investigations, including the underground tunnel. The museum is housed on the grounds of the former State Lunatic Asylum No. 2, which opened in 1874, and tells the history of how mental illness was treated, with exhibits made from objects swallowed by patients and displays of old restraints. It sits on a history of real patients who suffered here, and deserves to be approached with respect for them.
Open as a museum with one admission covering several St. Joseph Museums; overnight ghost hunts are run separately and require tickets. Check the museum's site.
