The Gettysburg Hotel on Lincoln Square began in 1797 as the Scott Tavern, was later the Indian Queen and the McClellan House, and was used as a field hospital during the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. Ghost-tour writers say its spirits include Rachel, a Civil War nurse who opens drawers and moves guests' things, a woman in period dress dancing alone in the ballroom and a Union soldier standing at attention or checking doors. Reports also include cold spots, footsteps, whispers and electronics switching on and off.
Working hotel on the town square; the lobby and restaurants are open to visitors, and it is a stop on Gettysburg ghost tours.
