The Historic Village at Allaire, inside Allaire State Park, is a restored 19th-century bog iron village built around the Howell Works, a furnace and foundry where hundreds of workers and their families lived. New Jersey haunted-places lists include it for stories of a woman in funeral dress heard sobbing at the top of a staircase and a spirit called Hal who is said to interact with visitors. The village is open for tours and events in the park's season.
Part of Allaire State Park; the restored village is open for tours and programs seasonally, and the park itself is open year-round. Check the park for current hours.
