The Cranbury Inn on South Main Street was founded in 1780 and housed guests until 1982, and it is still a restaurant. It was a stop on the Underground Railroad, according to local accounts. New Jersey haunted-places lists describe doors that open on their own and staff who report telepathic messages from past guests, as well as an old man said to have been hit by a stagecoach in the 1790s. Psychics and investigators who have visited call the spirits warm and welcoming.
