Fred Dover built the original bridge and an adjoining grist, saw, and shingle mill here in the late 1800s; after the first bridge washed away, Will Pardue rebuilt the current 38-foot span in 1895, and Fred Stovall Sr. bought the operation in 1917. The bridge appeared in the 1951 film I'd Climb the Highest Mountain, starring Susan Hayward. No documented death or tragedy is tied to the site, but for generations locals have insisted that standing alone on the bridge after dark brings the sound of crying babies and the clatter of horse-drawn carriages crossing the old planks.
Georgia's smallest covered bridge, open to pedestrians only. There is a small free parking lot and a picnic area.
