Dr. George Story founded this Brown County farming town in 1851; it faded into a near-ghost town after the railroads bypassed it and the Great Depression emptied out its remaining jobs. Rick Hofstetter bought the town in 1998 and restored it into the Story Inn, now Indiana's oldest continuously operating country inn, built around the original general store. Guests staying above the store report the Blue Lady — believed to be Dr. Story's wife — appearing by the bed or in the window's reflection, especially when the room's blue nightstand light is on; she's said to leave blue objects behind and carry the smell of cherry tobacco. The room where she's most reported, once called the Garden Room, is now known as the Blue Lady Room.
Operating inn and restaurant; the Blue Lady Room can be booked directly. Interiors are for guests and diners.
