Built in 1894, this Victorian house was bought in 1899 by Dr. John Gibbons and his wife Jessie, who took in orphaned and abandoned children. Around Christmas 1912, a young girl in their care named Rachael started a fire in the front parlor and died of her burns days later; the Gibbons' own ten-month-old daughter, Elizabeth, died soon after in the master bedroom. The Travel Channel later named the house the 4th most terrifying place in America. Guests report disembodied whispering in their ears, doors opening on their own, and children's laughter — the source of the estate's name. It now operates as a bed and breakfast offering paranormal investigations.
Bed and breakfast offering paid overnight stays, flashlight tours and paranormal investigations. Everything is by booking, so reserve ahead.
