The St. James Hotel in Red Wing opened in 1875 on the Mississippi River and was a favorite of riverboat travelers and railroad barons. It is said that the third floor is haunted by a former owner, and that spirits on every floor slam doors and whisper. A woman in a Victorian dress is reported walking the hallways. The hotel is a Historic Hotel of America with a restored 1875 facade, and it still takes guests and diners. The stories are part of the hotel's lore.
