The Warden's House Museum in Stillwater was built in 1853 beside the old Minnesota Territorial Prison and is now a museum of the Washington County Historical Society. Henry Wolfer was the last warden to live there, and his daughter Gertrude, called Trudy, died of appendicitis after giving birth to her son, whom her father raised in the house. Visitors and staff have told of a woman with stomach pains who seems to search for a baby, and the sound of shoveling coal has been heard in the basement. The house is best known for its prison history.
Open for guided tours on a seasonal schedule, usually Thursday through Sunday from May to October; check the Washington County Historical Society's site.
