The Minnesota State Capitol, designed by Cass Gilbert and completed in 1905, is a Beaux-Arts landmark topped by one of the largest unsupported marble domes in the world. Stories say employees have seen old senators and governors from the 1800s pacing the halls and the staircases late at night. Visitors have described unexplained noises from the second story, cold gusts of air, and people locked into room 217, a former judge's office. St. Paul ghost tours include the building, which is a working seat of government that also offers public tours.
Free guided tours are offered during regular hours; check the Minnesota Historical Society's tour page for the schedule and security rules.
