The Mantorville Opera House dates to 1918 and is the home of the Mantorville Theatre Company in a village that many call the most haunted small town in the Midwest. The best-known spirit is Ellen, who plays pranks during productions, joined by two other named ghosts, Robert Sorenson and Harold, and a ghost cat tied to a mummified cat found cemented behind a basement wall. The paranormal investigator Hawk Horvath of After Hours Paranormal Investigations has held ghost hunts here for years and leads ghost tours of Mantorville. The theatre still stages a full season of plays.
A working community theatre with a season of ticketed shows; ghost tours of Mantorville run on select dates. Check the theatre company's site.
