Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in the Hudson Valley village of Sleepy Hollow is the resting place of Washington Irving, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and of Andrew Carnegie, Walter Chrysler and many other notables. It is the setting most tied to the legend of the Headless Horseman, and lamp-lit and daytime tours tell its stories. The legend is fiction, and the cemetery is a working burial ground and a historic landscape.
Open to the public in daytime with seasonal lantern tours run by the Historic Hudson Valley; the adjoining Old Dutch Church burial ground is separate. Be respectful of graves and families.
