Built in 1907 by W.R. Gunn, the Hawkinsville Opera House hosted vaudeville acts, including a young Oliver Hardy, and later served as the town's city hall until 1954. Narrowly saved from demolition and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, it underwent a $1.7 million restoration in 2001. Staff and paranormal investigators have reported disembodied voices and lights that flicker or dim on their own with no electrical cause found, activity locals attribute to the building's century of ghosts.
