Boone Hall, completed in 1950, is named for Sallie Goelz Boone — "Miss Sallie" to generations of students — who worked at Mercer as a librarian, literature professor, and counselor beginning in 1904. Campus legend holds that a student died by suicide in a top-floor room decades ago; the window has long since been covered so no one can see in, and the room remains locked. The story isn't backed by a documented case, but it's one of the most consistently repeated ghost stories on Mercer's campus: students report cold spots on the top floor and a hanging silhouette occasionally visible from the center balcony outside.
Boone Hall is a student residence hall at Mercer University. It is not open to the public. The university runs campus tours for prospective students on weekdays.
