In 1952, Georgia College student Betty Jean Cook, known as "Cookie," died by suicide on the third floor of Samford Hall; rumors that she was actually murdered persisted for years afterward. The college closed off the third floor following her death. Generations of resident advisors and students living on the floors below have reported bumps and footsteps coming from the room where she died, and "Cookie" remains one of the first ghost stories every incoming Samford Hall resident learns.
Samford Hall is a campus building at Georgia College, and the campus grounds are open to the public. Campus tours start at the Welcome Center in Mayfair Hall; the building interior is for staff and students.
