The Fairport Harbor lighthouse, built in 1871 on a bluff above the Grand River and Lake Erie, is now part of the Fairport Harbor Marine Museum. TourismOhio includes it on its haunted-places list. Visitors and volunteers tell of a gray cat that brushes against people's legs when no cat is there, as well as footsteps in the tower and the sound of children running. Like many of these lighthouse stories, they are told by those who visit and work there rather than recorded in any official history.
Museum and lighthouse tower are open on a seasonal schedule, usually weekends in summer and fall; check the museum for hours and tower-climb availability.
