At Historic St. Joseph Church, staff and visitors have reported seeing blood on their hands, a loud bang from the middle of the former sanctuary, and loud footsteps; the church's own history echoes it, with nearly a hundred worshipers said to have experienced stigmata, blood appearing on their hands, accompanied by loud noises while the parish was still in operation. Founded in 1873 as Indianapolis's fourth Catholic parish, St. Joseph built its Gothic church in 1879, held its last Mass in 1949 and closed for good in 1954 as membership declined. The archdiocese sold the property in 1986, and after two decades of multiple owners and severe neglect the building reopened in 2015 as Saint Joseph Brewery & Public House, an independent craft brewery and restaurant that still occupies the former sanctuary today.
The church closed in 1954 and sits in Indianapolis's St. Joseph neighborhood. Interior access could not be confirmed, so look only from the street.
