Established in 1829, Waverly Hall Cemetery has built a reputation, documented in Jim Miles' book Weird Georgia and by multiple paranormal investigation teams, as one of the most consistently haunted cemeteries in the state. Its best-known figure is the "Lady in White," a woman in a pale gown seen wandering among the graves at night — some say a young woman who died under mysterious circumstances, others a widow still visiting her husband's grave. A second legend surrounds the "Hanging Tree," said to have been used to execute criminals in the town's early days, with the spirits of the executed still lingering nearby. Investigators have reported EVP recordings, cold spots, and disembodied voices throughout the grounds.
