The Thayer Hotel in downtown Annandale was built in 1895 with money from the Soo Railroad and from Albert Augustus Thayer, after a fire destroyed the earlier hotel on the site. The spirits of Gus and Caroline Thayer are said to stay on as friendly guardians, joined by a little girl, a bride, two ghost cats and the former owner's husband. The hotel offered public ghost tours and drew coverage from central Minnesota media. The building now serves as a restaurant and bar, and the hotel rooms are no longer open to guests.
The restaurant and bar are open to the public; the hotel rooms have closed. Check the restaurant's hours before going.
