Founded in 1927 on Chicago's South Side, St. Turibius Church is still an active parish today. Local legend holds that the ghost of Father Joe Lechert, pastor here through the 1950s and '60s, still lingers — the popular version of the story says he was let go in a church reorganization and died of a broken heart soon after, though someone who grew up in the parish during his tenure has disputed that account, saying he instead became pastor emeritus and died within the year. Parishioners and altar boys have reported seeing his ghostly figure and smelling his cigarette smoke, along with an unexplained white orb once caught in a photograph near the altar.
