Jewish Waldheim Cemetery, established in 1870 and home to over 250 sections representing Chicago-area Jewish families, synagogues, and organizations, carries its own local ghost story distinct from the famous Resurrection Mary legend tied to a different cemetery nearby. Visitors describe a "Flapper Girl" — a young woman with brunette hair, dressed in the style of the 1920s — seen near the cemetery gates, sometimes said to hitch rides toward the site of the old Melody Mill Ballroom down the street.
Working Jewish cemetery with set visiting hours on weekdays and Sundays. It is closed on Saturdays and Jewish holidays. Be quiet, and treat the graves with respect.
