St. John's United Methodist Church, an old building with numerous upstairs rooms, has a modest set of ghost stories among its members: an old woman occasionally glimpsed in the basement near the pool table, and, in one told account, a pool ball that vanished from its pocket mid-game only to fall from the ceiling onto the table. In a secluded upstairs room reached by a narrow winding staircase, words are said to be written on the wall in red crayon, in a child's handwriting: "Be kind in God's house."
Working congregation with Sunday worship, and visitors are welcome at services. Don't enter the building outside worship or event times.
