Deadwood ghost-tour guides and local TV say a spirit plays the piano in Saloon No. 10, and some believe Wild Bill Hickok's spirit never left the area. Hickok was shot dead by Jack McCall while playing poker on August 2, 1876, in the original Saloon No. 10, which burned in Deadwood's 1879 fire; the saloon now on Main Street opened in 1938, so the ghost stories belong to a building that is not on the original site. It keeps a museum of the day and stages a re-enactment of the shooting in summer, and its "Death Chair" is widely doubted. No dated or witnessed piano sightings are on record.
Working saloon and museum open daily; ghost tours of Deadwood pass through.
