Mount Moriah Cemetery on a hill above Deadwood is the burial place of Wild Bill Hickok, killed in 1876, Calamity Jane, Seth Bullock and many other figures of the Black Hills gold rush, and of miners and ordinary townspeople. Local legend holds that figures are seen walking among the graves at night and that the cemetery gates swing open again when workers close them. The stories are told along with the real history of those buried here.
Historic cemetery open to visitors by day, often with an admission fee in season; the grounds are steep, so wear good shoes, and please do not touch or lean on the markers.
