The Pico House, an Italianate hotel built by Pio Pico, the last Mexican governor of Alta California, stands in El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. Reported footsteps, shadows and electrical interference have been tied to Pico himself or to victims of the 1871 Chinese Massacre, a mob attack in which about 18 Chinese men were killed nearby. Ghost Adventures investigated in 2011; the accounts are lore, and the 1871 victims deserve remembrance rather than spectacle.
Part of El Pueblo; the ground floor is used for exhibits and events, and the upper floors are not generally open.
