Peoria Players Theatre, the oldest continuously running community theater in Illinois and fourth oldest in the nation, is said to be haunted by Norman — known affectionately as "Normie" — a theater director who died in 1960 at age 34. He's remembered as a playful presence backstage and especially in the women's dressing room, blamed for self-flushing toilets and the occasional bit of stage help with lighting. The theater's annual Normie Awards are named in his honor, and a painting of him hangs in the building.
