Williams Hall is said to be haunted by Angeline Vernon "Ange" Milner, ISU's first librarian, who served from 1890 to 1928 and personally catalogued more than 40,000 books over her career. There's a real wrinkle in the legend, though: Milner died in 1928, and Williams Hall — originally built as Milner Library in her honor — wasn't constructed until 1940, meaning she never actually set foot in the building tied to her ghost story. Staff and visitors nonetheless report footsteps in the rare-books room, books rebound and reshelved only to turn up tattered again, volumes stacked in odd arrangements, and books pushed one by one off shelves with no one nearby.
Working campus building used for university programs, so it isn't open for casual visits. The university's current library, Milner Library, is a separate building; contact ISU before visiting.
