At Jacob's Funeral Home, black shadows and unexplained noise have been reported in the old basement. Built in 1901 at 208 E. Mulberry St., Jacob's was the first Black-owned funeral home in Kokomo and, for a time, the only one in central Indiana — a significant and difficult role during an era of racial hostility in the city, including handling the remains of people who had been lynched at the nearby downtown courthouse. The building was remodeled starting in 2000, with its upper level now rented as a downtown apartment; a music-production company, House of Jordan Entertainment, later used part of the space as a recording studio.
The 1901 building at this address was Kokomo's first Black-owned funeral home. Its current use could not be confirmed, so please view it only from the street and respect the community that built it.
