Visitors and staff at the Meux Home report children's laughter from the upstairs rooms, and doorknobs that go missing from several doors overnight. Dr Thomas Richard Meux, a Confederate assistant surgeon, brought his family west in 1887 and in 1889 built this two-storey Victorian, where he established his practice. The Meuxes stayed for eighty-one years: his daughter Anne Prenetta Meux lived in the house until her death in 1970, and the family altered the building so little that much of it survives. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and the City of Fresno now runs it as the Meux Home Museum.
Operates as the Meux Home Museum, open for tours on a limited seasonal schedule; check current hours before visiting.
