Milton Benevolent Cemetery traces back to 1844, when James R. Riley bought the land that would become it, four blocks from what's now downtown Milton; plots staked out through the 1850s and '60s are still marked with their original concrete borders, brick walls, and iron fences. The historic cemetery is the subject of regular guided ghost tours, and visitors and locals describe a general sense of mysterious figures and unexplained sounds throughout — one photograph reportedly caught a thin, shadowy figure in the distance among the stones.
Historic public cemetery run by the Milton Benevolent Cemetery board. Visit during daylight, stay on the paths and treat the graves with respect.
