A 406-acre section of Messenger Woods was designated an Illinois Nature Preserve in 1994 and 1999, protecting a mix of forest, prairie, savanna, and wetland along Spring Creek. Drivers passing the preserve describe an uneasy feeling, along with reports of screams and shadow-like shapes crossing in front of their vehicles.
Nature preserve of the Forest Preserve District of Will County, open from 8 a.m. to sunset. Stay on the marked trails and don't leave the preserve's hours.
