Opened in 1926 and known as the "Jewel of Joliet," the Rialto Square Theatre was built as an ornate movie palace and vaudeville venue and remains a working performance venue today. Staff and guests report a spectral young woman, believed to have been an actress or performer here decades ago, sometimes seen in a hazy light; two named spirits, Colin and Vivian, are said to linger in the theater as well, with Vivian — believed to be a former vaudeville performer — reportedly the more communicative of the two, said to express her fondness for the building to visitors. A period-dressed couple has also been seen in the balcony, believed by some to have fallen to their deaths there years ago. The theater now offers guided paranormal tours of its esplanade, rotunda, and dressing rooms.
Working theater in downtown Joliet. You can see it by buying tickets to a show, and it offers a weekly tour on certain days for a small fee. Check rialtosquare.com for current times.
