The Massock Mausoleum sits in Spring Valley's Lithuanian Liberty Cemetery, established in 1914, where three members of the Massock family — Jacob (d. 1920), Peter (d. 1928), and Anton (d. 1946) — are entombed. Local legend tells of a "Hatchet Man" who guards the grounds after dark, sometimes said to be the ghost of a caretaker who killed his wife with an axe, along with a separate vampire legend claiming the crypt occasionally drips blood. The mausoleum's door has been sealed since the 1960s, after vandals stole a skull from inside — visitors still describe the door as warm to the touch.
The mausoleum is in the old Lithuanian Liberty Cemetery, whose entrance is hidden and overgrown. It can be seen from the road, and the door has been sealed for decades. Stay off the private fields around it and leave the mausoleum alone.
