Commissioned in 1913 on a windswept point on Kauaʻi's north shore, Kīlauea Point Lighthouse guided ships across the Pacific for decades before being decommissioned and preserved within the Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. Visitors and staff have long reported the spirit of a former lighthouse keeper still patrolling the grounds, along with shadowy figures and phantom footsteps near the tower.
Part of Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. Visits need a reservation through Recreation.gov, and the refuge is open Wednesday through Saturday. Lighthouse interior tours are suspended; you can see the exterior and visitor center.
