The John Paul Jones House in Portsmouth, a Georgian house on Middle Street where the Revolutionary War naval hero lodged during the war, is now a museum of the Portsmouth Historical Society. Roxie Zwicker, author of Haunted Portsmouth, tells of visitors on tours who see someone in 19th-century finery come out of the attic and walk into a room, only to find the room empty when they follow.
House museum open seasonally, generally Thursday through Monday from late May with last admission at 4:30; confirm hours with the Portsmouth Historical Society.
