The Hunter Museum of American Art grew out of a Classical Revival mansion built in 1904 on the Chattanooga bluff above the Tennessee River for the Hunter family, and the museum opened there in 1952. Its collection now spans a modern wing and the original mansion. A museum spokesperson has said that staff and visitors have reported five ghosts in the building, and the mansion is a favorite stop in Chattanooga's haunted-history lore.
