Hotel Josephine was built in 1889 by Holton businessman A.D. Walker and named for his four-month-old daughter, Josephine. The brick hotel on Ohio Avenue has been restored with Victorian furnishings on the first floor and a western feel upstairs, and it still operates with 19 guest rooms and a restaurant. The hotel promotes its ghosts openly and offers ghost hunts and overnight investigations. The spirit most often named is Josephine herself, described as friendly but displeased by rowdy guests, whose arrival staff say is marked by angry footsteps in empty rooms and doors that open and shut. Reports also include a shadowy figure and pictures that spin and fall to the floor in the Buffalo Room, the most active room, and male voices recorded in the basement. KSNT has reported on the hotel's national recognition for its supernatural visitors.
