Established in 1880, Greenwood Cemetery is Orlando's oldest burial ground, now covering more than 80 acres and holding the graves of many of the city's founding families alongside a Confederate soldier section. Visitors have long reported the sound of children playing and laughing among the tombstones and apparitions of Confederate soldiers wandering beneath the cemetery's live oaks. Some of the account's eeriest sections, nicknamed "Baby Land," hold young children who died at the former Sunland Hospital, a state institution once located nearby.
City-owned cemetery, open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the City of Orlando offering occasional guided walking tours. Stay on the paths and treat the graves with respect.
