Built in 1908 over the Patoka River by the Indiana Bridge Company and named for John Severns, the first white settler in Gibson County (1789), who ran a ferry here with the local Native Americans' agreement to live on the riverbank — this 108-foot Warren through-truss bridge, known locally as Bulldog Bridge, closed to vehicle traffic in 1999 and was rehabilitated for pedestrian use in 2009. Local legend holds the bridge has been host to many suicides over the years, mostly by hanging, and that a man was once found dead in a locked car nearby in the height of summer heat. Cold spots are often felt even in warm weather, and growling has been reported from the surrounding cornfields.
1908 truss bridge that has been bypassed and preserved for walkers, over the Patoka River. Park off the road and walk to it.
