Bombay Beach was a 1950s resort town on the Salton Sea that emptied as rising salinity, flooding and fish die-offs drove residents away. Fewer than 250 people live there now, among abandoned trailers, a drive-in art installation, the Ski Inn bar and annual Biennale art.
Open town on the shore; services are few, so bring water and fuel.
