Built in 1914 as the Crystal Theater and known for decades as the PM&L Theatre, this Antioch venue carries a ghost story nearly a century old: a girl said to walk the building, flicking floodlights on and off and making strange noises. The story turned out to be an elaborate, long-running hoax — theater volunteer Elmarie Beno admitted to perpetuating it for years with help from fellow theater buffs Betty and Ken Smouse, having fun with visitors who asked about the ghost. A separate, unproven rumor holds that Al Capone had tunnels dug beneath the theater toward Fox Lake; while that specific claim has never been substantiated, Capone did keep a real summer house nearby on Bluff Lake.
Working community theater that presents live productions, with performances on weekends. You can see it by buying tickets at the box office or online.
