Woodpecker Hill, on the grounds of the Colorado Territorial Prison in Cañon City, is the burial ground for inmates who died in custody or were executed; none received headstones, only markers bearing their cell numbers. Children and teenagers were later buried on the same hillside around the turn of the century. Visitors describe cold spots, numerous orbs, shadowy figures by day and lit figures at night, and the sound of children laughing in the distance.
