The Wauwinet is a long-established resort on the Nantucket shore. Reports passed down by staff describe lights that turn on by themselves, the sound of running water in the lobby where there are no pipes, and footsteps in empty rooms. The most repeated story is of a woman who can be seen only from the corner of the eye and leaves a scent of gardenias or roses. An old rumor says the land was an Indigenous burial ground, but nothing documents that claim.
An operating luxury resort; the restaurant and grounds are open to guests and to diners by reservation.
