Warren began as Warren's Diggings after an 1862 gold find, and Chinese miners, who bought the claims and worked them profitably, were the majority of the district from 1870 to 1900 in a town unusually welcoming to them. The county seat from 1869 to 1875, it rebuilt after a 1904 fire. A few residents stay in summer, and the only road in closes in winter.
Reached by a dirt road 45 miles from McCall; mostly empty in winter, and most buildings are private.
