The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, also called Weston State Hospital, is a huge stone Kirkbride-plan hospital that took in patients from 1864 until it closed in 1994, and today it is a National Historic Landmark open for history and ghost tours. TAPS investigated it in a 2008 Ghost Hunters episode and returned for the show's 200th episode, and Ghost Adventures did a live overnight investigation in 2009. Visitors tell of a child spirit called Lily and other presences. Thousands of patients lived and died here, and their stories, not only the ghost lore, are what the tours are meant to honor.
Open for guided history tours and ghost tours (seasonal, usually through mid-November) and some overnight events; book through the asylum's website.
