Local legend names Elizabeth Bradley, the daughter of a Creek witch doctor, as the source of this church cemetery's reputation. Her own daughters married into the feuding Tilley and Stanley families, and after a shooting at the church left several dead, Elizabeth is said to have cursed both families. She was hanged by the Tilleys in the church graveyard, and her grave, unlike the east-facing Christian burials around it, was dug facing west. Visitors say leaves gather and swirl around her grave even when there is no wind.
Rural church and cemetery in the mountains of Fannin County, where a deadly feud once cost several lives. Visit in daylight, be quiet and respectful of the graves, and stay off private land.
