The Thurber House on Jefferson Avenue in Columbus was the home of humorist James Thurber while he was a student and a young man, and is now a literary center and museum. TourismOhio lists it among Ohio's haunted places. It was built in 1873 on land once part of an earlier state psychiatric hospital that burned down. Thurber himself wrote of ghosts in this house; staff and guests describe footsteps, books falling off shelves and a broken clock that suddenly worked. Columbus Ghost Tours has hosted evening ghost tours and investigations.
Open for tours and literary events; ghost tours and private investigations are by ticket on select evenings.
