The Mount in Lenox is the estate the writer Edith Wharton built in 1902 and lived in until 1911, and it is now a museum and cultural center. Visitors and staff describe a sense of being watched, footsteps, a figure thought to be Wharton seen reading, and the spirit of a young servant girl on the top floor, while theater workers have reported male apparitions. The Ghost Hunters team investigated the house in 2008 and again in December 2014, and the team reported footsteps, voices and an apparition of a head peeking around a corner. The Mount itself offers seasonal ghost tours, which makes the stories an accepted part of its programming.
Open as a museum with house tours, gardens and events. The Mount runs ghost tours from midsummer through Halloween; check its site for dates and tickets.
