Castle Green opened on January 16, 1899, as the Central Annex of George Gill Green's Hotel Green, designed by Frederick Roehrig. The hotel was a social center of Pasadena, and the annex later housed the Tournament of Roses association and the Valley Hunt Club. Today it is a complex of 52 privately owned apartments and a listed historic landmark.
Residents have long reported doorknobs that turn on their own, phantom footsteps and faucets that sputter by themselves. Pasadena Now quotes Kimberly Mehu, a former resident of Unit 607, who recalled water splattering on her kitchen table and door handles that jiggled. The same outlet describes a woman in a white Victorian gown said to wander the halls, sometimes with a faint scent of perfume, whose identity is unknown. Visit Pasadena mentions a servant boy said to have been crushed in the laundry machinery, and a 2012 Phantom Los Angeles post relays a top-floor tenant's account of footsteps that stopped outside his door.
Not open to the public. This is a private residential building, so please view it from the sidewalk and do not enter or walk onto the grounds. It is occasionally open for tours and is the endpoint of Pasadena's haunted walking tour; check Pasadena Walking Tours for dates.
