Guests at the Tarpon Inn have reported footsteps overhead, cold spots, voices, a pink glow in the bathroom at night, a woman standing at the foot of the bed, and children running along the porch or crying when no children were checked in; one birthday group ghost hunting played back their room recordings at bedtime and heard a voice say they were being watched. Rooms 26 and 40 are the best known: the story of Room 26, the Honeymoon Suite, is that a newlywed husband went out and never returned and the bride was found hanged from the rafters days later, and Room 40 is said to be the most haunted, so heavy that a former general manager would not go in. The small wooden hotel in Port Aransas dates to 1886, is known for the signed tarpon scales that line its porch and lobby, and reopened in 2018 after being heavily damaged by Hurricane Harvey. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
